BGR MATCHES EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTIONS TO HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF

Columbia, MD, Friday, September 02, 2005 — Employees at BGR are no strangers to community service. The firm's policy is to give its staff time off from work, with pay, to volunteer for approved charitable causes ranging from Adopt-A-Road to Hospice of Howard County. Until this week, all of their efforts have gone toward community-based causes.

But after watching the utter devastation that Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing floods wreaked on New Orleans , Mississippi and Alabama, the firm decided to contribute to those relief efforts. “BGR has always believed in giving back and our staff has embraced that custom,” says Marc Rubin, managing partner. “When we saw what was happening in New Orleans, our employees came up to me and said ‘we have to do something.’ So we hastily organized a drive for contributions to go to the American Red Cross with the firm matching each donation, dollar for dollar.”

BGR wanted to get the money to the Red Cross as quickly as possible so they gave themselves one day to come up with the money and then they personally delivered it to the nearest Red Cross center. Rubin reflects, “We’re comfortable up here, and we needed to help out those who’ve lost so much.”
